ENB EXPANSION IN USA

  JXTG Nippon Oil & Energy Corporation (JXTG) and Sanyo Chemical Industries, Ltd (SCI) made a decision to expand their existing ENB plants in USA from 40,000 tons per year to 46,000 tons per year that will deliver an additional 15% production capacity.

  ENB (Ethylidene Norbornene) is an important component in the manufacture of EPDM, an advanced heat and weather resistant synthetic rubber used primarily in the automotive and construction industries. ENB demand has been increasing strongly with automotive production increase.

  JXTG and SCI are the leading global producer with one production line in Japan and two production lines in the USA. The two companies have provided a stable ENB supply for its worldwide customers through independent production locations with the network of terminals in the USA, Europe, and Asia.

  After completion of 3 production lines in 2007, JXTG and SCI have increased ENB capacity for the growing demand. In 2015 2,000 tons per year expansion work of the production line in Japan was completed and additionally JXTG and SCI decided to expand 6,000 tons per year for the production lines in the USA by 2020.

  By a series of the expansion, total capacity of Japan and USA will be 68,000 tons per year by 2020. In addition JXTG and SCI are studying further expansion in order to meet growing demand.

  JXTG and SCI continue to ensure stable supply for the growing demand and also reinforce ENB business by the production capacity expansion.

Progress of ENB production capacity

1979 No.1 ENB was constructed and started ENB production in Japan.
(In 1997 ENB capacity was expanded to 20,000 tons per year.)
2003 No.2 ENB was constructed and started ENB production in USA.
(No.2 ENB original capacity was 20,000 tons per year in USA, yielding a total global capacity of 40,000 tons per year.)
2007 No.3 ENB was constructed and started ENB production in USA.
(No.3 ENB added 20,000 tons per year capacity for 40,000 tons per year in USA, yielding a total global capacity of 60,000 tons per year.)
2015 No. 1 ENB capacity was expanded to 22,000 tons per year.
(No.1 ENB expansion increased global ENB production to 62,000 tons per year.)
May 2018 JXTG and SCI made a decision to expand No.2 and No.3 ENB capacity from 40,000 tons per year to 46,000 tons per year and total capacity of Japan and USA to 68,000 tons per year by 2020.
